The value of this treasure is equivalent to
During the Warring States Period in China,
the King of the Kingdom of Zhao was given a treasure called (He Shi Bi).
(He Shi Bi) is a sacred jade artefact used
exclusively by the king to worship the gods.
When the King of Qin heard the news, he
sent an ambassador to meet the King of Zhao.
The ambassador said to the king of the Zhao
Kingdom
The King of Qin wants to see the precious (Heshi Bi) in your hands. He is willing to exchange 15 cities with you. Please
agree to our request.
The King of Zhao discussed the King of
Qin's request with several ministers.
There was one minister named (Lin Xiangru),
he said.
The Qin Kingdom is very powerful and we are
very weak, so we cannot directly refuse the Qin Kingdom's request.
The king said.
I agree with you. But I am afraid that this
is a trick. After the Qin Kingdom takes away (the He Shi Bi), it is very likely
that they will not give us the 15 cities.
(Lin Xiangru) replied.
Your concern is right, I share your
opinion.
But we need to think more deeply. If we
refuse the King of Qin's request outright, Qin will probably send an army to
attack us and take the (Heshi Bi) by force.
After objectively assessing the numbers of
our two armies, I believe it is impossible for us to defeat the Qin army.
Therefore, I think we must agree to their
request.
The king said with a pained expression.
What can we do so that we don't have to
surrender the (Heshi Bi) to the Qin Kingdom?
How can we achieve the best results?
(Lin Xiangru) replied.
The best result for us is not to hand over
the (He Shi Bi) to the Qin Kingdom.
The second best result is that after we
give the (He Shi Bi) to the Qin Kingdom, the Qin Kingdom keeps its promise and
gives us 15 cities.
The worst outcome is that we give the (Heshi
Bi) to the Qin Kingdom, but the Qin Kingdom goes back on its word and does not
give us the 15 cities.
(Lin Xiangru) paused for a moment before
continuing to answer
You can send me as an ambassador to meet
the King of Qin with the (Heshi Bi).
I will do everything I can to get the best
result for us.
The king could think of no other solution,
so he agreed to Lin Xiangru's request.
The day after the meeting, Lin Xiangru left
the Kingdom of Zhao with (He Shi Bi), and a few days later he successfully
arrived in the capital of the Kingdom of Qin.

(The value of this treasure is
equivalent to 15 cities.)
