He is an outstanding writer. He was one of the most important literary figures in China's Tang Dynasty.

He likes to convey profound truths through simple stories. He wrote the following story.

There is a small insect called (蝜蝂).

This little insect leaves its home every day to look for some edible food outside.

When this little insect sees food it likes, it carries it on its back.

This small insect is very greedy. If it sees a lot of food it likes when it goes out, it carries all the food on its back.

One day I saw a small insect like this in the wild. I saw that it was carrying a lot of food on its body, and it was crawling very slowly.

I reached out and took the food off the little bug's back.

The movements of this little bug suddenly became very agile. I could feel that this little bug, who was originally carrying a heavy burden, became relaxed and happy, and this little bug began to crawl quickly.

I was very happy that I had helped this little bug and I stayed by it and continued to watch it.

I didn't expect that after less than a minute of relaxation the little bug would start carrying food on its back again.

There was plenty of food in the small patch of land in front of me for the little bug to eat. Five minutes later, the little insect was carrying a lot of food on its back, more than it could carry.

I looked at the little insect with pity. It was completely immobilised by the weight it was carrying on its back, but it was unwilling to give up the food it was carrying.

About half an hour later, I saw that the little bug had been crushed to death by the food it was carrying.

Liu Zongyuan wrote down his feelings about this incident.

How stupid this little beetle is.

But we observe many people around us, even ourselves.

Aren't most of the people around us just like that little beetle?

Every day we think only of how to get more wealth, power or other tangible material pleasures.

We refuse to give up what we have already gained, and we hold on to these things tightly, refusing to let go until we die.

But do these things really help us in our lives?

Even though our bodies are bigger than that little beetle, is our wisdom higher than that little beetle?

Dear friends, what inspiration or thoughts do you have after listening to this story?

How long has it been since you have examined or thought about your goals in life? What is of real value to you?

I hope this story can give you some new insights.

(Liu Zongyuan)
