The founding king of China's Shang Dynasty was called (Zi Lu). He also had another name (Shang Tang). There is a story about him recorded in history books.
He was the leader of the Shang tribe.
After uniting several tribes in the Yellow River basin at that time, he led the people he led to defeat the Xia Dynasty and establish the Shang Dynasty.
One day, while inspecting the capital of the Shang Dynasty, he saw a farmer setting a bird trap.
The farmer took out four huge nets and set them up on the east, south, west and north sides of a forest.
After the farmer had set up the four nets, he looked up to the sky and said.
I pray that I will have a good harvest today. I hope to catch all the birds in this forest.
After listening to the farmer's prayer, Shang Tang went up to the farmer.
He said to the farmer
I have just seen you set up four huge nets and heard your prayers.
I think we should treat those we want to catch with kindness and generosity.
I think you should take down three nets and leave only one.
I suggest you pray like this.
All the birds in this forest can fly to the left or to the right.
There is a net on one side of the forest and the birds are advised not to fly to the side with the net.
If some birds really don't want to live, they can fly into this big net I've made.
After Shang Tang had said these words, he said to the farmer
We should exercise moderation in hunting prey so that the whole ecosystem can develop sustainably.
Shang Tang treated the people of the Shang Dynasty with a compassionate heart, and he treated all non-human creatures with the same heart. Shang Tang won the respect and love of all the people of the Shang Dynasty.
The literal translation of this saying is to use only one net.
It is used to describe a person who treats the people and things around him with a compassionate heart.
Dear friends, what inspiration or thoughts do you get after listening to this story?
Do you think many of us today think the same way as this hunter? How can we change ourselves to jointly maintain ecological sustainability?
I hope this story can bring you some new insights.
