The custom is to find a beautiful girl
every year and throw her into the great river that flows through the city.
Become the bride of the river god who is in charge of the river.
Only then will the river god be happy and
the river will not overflow that year.
(XimenBao) secretly investigated and
discovered that this absurd legend had been invented by three local elders, a
witch and some unscrupulous officials.
They are using the ignorance and fear of
the people to further their own interests.
But this group of people is so powerful,
how to solve this problem fundamentally.
(XimenBao) thought of a way.
On the day of the event, they were
preparing to throw this year's bride into the river.
Suddenly, (XimenBao) said, "I want to
see this bride.
(XimenBao) was the highest ranking leader
that day, no one dared to refuse his request.
After he finished looking, he announced to
all the onlookers. I think the bride chosen this year is so ugly that the River
God will definitely not like her. We must change someone else.
When the witch heard this, she said to
[Ximen Bao]. There is no time to find another bride. We should sacrifice this
girl to the river god now, otherwise the river god will be angry
When (XimenBao) heard these words, he
smiled and said to all the onlookers.
This bride is really too ugly. If the River
God sees this ugly bride, not only will he not be happy, he will definitely
become even more angry.
(XimenBao) continued. I have a good idea,
because the witch often talks to the river god, so I will send her to explain the
situation to the river god.
(XimenBao) ordered his men to tie the witch
up and throw her into the river.
Everyone was stunned.
Ten minutes later, (XimenBao) said to all
the onlookers.
The witch alone may not be able to explain
the situation clearly, so we ask the three elders to go down and help.
(XimenBao) He ordered his men to tie up the
three elders and throw them all into the river.
Ximen Bao looked at the unscrupulous
officials who were involved in this plan. Those unscrupulous officials knew
that it would be their turn to be thrown into the river next.
These officials knelt down and publicly
confessed their guilt. They made up the story that the river god wanted to
marry a bride. This matter is a lie.
At that time (XimenBao) looked at all the
people around him and announced loudly that from now on the River God would no
longer marry brides.
The people cheered, and those people
finally got rid of the long-standing fear in their hearts.

(西門豹)暗中調查後，發現這個荒謬的傳說，是由當地的三位長老，結合一位巫婆和少數不肖的官員共同編造的。
他們利用百姓的無知與恐懼去謀求自已的利益。
但這群人的勢力龐大，要如何從根本去解決這個問題呢。
(西門豹)想了一個方法。
舉辦活動的這一天，正當準備把這位今年的新娘丟下河時。
突然間，(西門豹)說我想看看這位新娘。
(西門豹)是當天職位最高的領導人，所以他的這提議沒有人敢拒絕。
他看完之後，跟所有圍觀的群眾宣布。我認為今年選的這位新娘實在太醜了，河神一定不會喜歡。我們必須要換一個人。
巫婆聽到這句話，她就對(西門豹)說。現在已經沒有時間再找一個新的新娘了。我們現在就應該把這女孩子獻給河神不然河神要生氣了。
(西門豹)聽到這句話，他笑了，他對所有圍觀的群眾說。
這個新娘真的長得太醜了，若是河神看到這個新娘那麼醜，他不但不會高興、而且他一定會更生氣。
(西門豹)接著說。我有一個好辦法，因為巫婆常常跟河神對話，所以我現在派她去跟河神說明這個情況。
西門豹便吩咐自己的部下，綁起這個巫婆，接著丟入河裡。
眾人都驚呆了。
過了十分鐘，(西門豹)又跟所有圍觀的群眾說。
巫婆一個人搞不好說不清楚這個情況，我們請三個長老也下去幫忙一下。
(西門豹)便吩咐自己的部下，綁起三個長老，並且把他們三個人全部丟入裡。
(西門豹)看向那些參與這項計畫的不肖官員們，那些不肖官員知道接下來就輪到自己要被丟入河中了。
這幾個官員便上前跪下，並且當眾認罪。他們編造了河神要娶新娘這件事情。這件事情是一個謊言。
(西門豹)這時候，看著周圍所有的群眾，大聲宣布，從今天開始，河神不再娶新娘了。
百姓一陣歡呼，這些百姓終於免除了心中長期的恐懼。
