Did you just go to Nantang?(南塘一出)

In the Western Jin Dynasty of China, there was a famous general named Zu Ti. His story is recorded in history books.

His grandfather and father were both officials in the Western Jin Dynasty, so their family's economic environment was very good.

His father died when he was still a child. He had two brothers who were many years older than him. His two brothers inherited the family property and managed it well.

Zu Ti has a very generous and open personality. He has his own ideas and doesn't like to follow rules.

He doesn't like to study, but he has a sense of justice and likes to make friends.

He often takes practical action to help some very poor people and has a high voice in his home town.

From 291 AD to 306 AD, during these 16 years, there were serious political struggles between the eight princes of the Jin dynasty and the king of the central government, a total of nine forces, to compete for the leadership of the central government. The Western Jin Dynasty Politics and economics became very chaotic.

In 311 AD, the former Zhao Kingdom in northern China captured the capital of the Western Jin Dynasty and the king of the Western Jin Dynasty was taken prisoner.

A few months before the capital of the Western Jin Dynasty was captured, Zu Ti realised that a great crisis was coming, so he took the initiative to lead hundreds of people from his hometown to leave his hometown in northern China.

During the escape, Zu Ti gave his carriage and horses to some of the elderly and sick people in his hometown. He himself walked with others.

He shared his family's medicine, clothes and food with all the people in his hometown who were fleeing.

His leadership was demonstrated during the escape, and a few weeks later they all arrived safely in Jiangsu Province in southern China.

After Zu Ti arrived in southern China, his bold personality attracted many young people to follow him.

Due to the effects of the war in northern China, supplies and food were becoming scarce in southern China.

The young people who followed Zu Ti were impulsive and wild. These young people thought that if there was no more food, we would all starve to death. To prevent us all from starving, we must break the laws and regulations.

These young people took advantage of the chaotic situation and went to a place called Nantang to rob.

There are a lot of rich people in Nantang, so they got a lot of money and food by robbing people.

After Zu Ti found out, he did not blame these young people.

Later those young men went to Nantang and robbed this place several times.

Zu Ti said to them

Have you been to Nantang again? Remember what I told you, it is okay to rob things, but not to hurt people's lives, because the punishment for these two crimes is different.

Robbery will only get you a prison sentence, but if you kill someone, you will definitely be sentenced to death.

The literal translation of this saying is Have you just been to Nantang?

This idiom is used to describe the act of robbery.

Dear friend, what kind of inspiration do you have after listening to this story?

Have you ever had to evacuate because of a disaster? Do you have an emergency evacuation plan in your home?

I hope this story gives you some new insights.

(Did you just go to Nantang?)
