An old man living in Liqiu(黎丘丈人)

During the Warring States period in China, the Prime Minister of the Qin Kingdom (Lü Buwei) compiled a series of books.

There is a story in these books.

There was a village in the north of Liang State called Liqiu. There lived a mischievous ghost who often transformed himself into a human being to play tricks on the local people.

One day, an old man from this village went to the next town to drink with a friend who lived there. After midday, the old man said to his friend, "I'm going home.

On his way home, the old man happened to meet his son in the street. The son saw that the old man was drunk and took the initiative to come over and help him walk.

After the old man and his son had walked together for about ten minutes, the son suddenly pushed the old man hard and the old man fell to the ground.

The old man's whole body was in great pain from the violent collision. He sat on the ground and scolded his son. Unexpectedly, the old man's son did not come to help him get up. Instead, the old man's son ran away laughing.

The old man got up and slowly walked back home. When he got home, he saw his son sitting happily in the living room, eating snacks and reading a book. The old man was very angry and picked up a stick to beat his son.

The old man's son was suddenly beaten by his father with a stick. The old man's son shouted, "Dad, don't hit me. Why are you hitting me?"

The old man said angrily.

I met you just now on my way home. Suddenly you pushed me down and made me fall to the ground, and you laughed. Your behaviour made me very angry, so I hit you.

The old man's son knelt on the ground and said, after hearing his father's words.

I went to collect the rent this morning and returned home before noon. My mother can be a witness and prove that I did not go out in the afternoon.

I didn't push you, the person who pushed you wasn't me.

Ah. I see. It must be that ghost in our village who transformed himself into me and played a trick on you.

The old man was calmer now. As he thought about what had happened, he realised that he had misunderstood his son.

The old man said angrily to his son.

That  ghost really made me fall. The next time I meet him, I will definitely stab him with a knife.

About half a month after this incident, the old man went to the next town to drink with his friends. After midday, the old man told his friends that he was going home.

On his way home, the old man saw his son walking towards him. His son said to the old man, "I was afraid you were going to be tricked by the ghost again, so I came to take you home.

The old man said angrily to his son.

Don't lie to me, your real identity is a ghost. You made me fall last time, I must take revenge.

After saying this, the old man took out the knife hidden on his body and stabbed his son.

After the old man's son was stabbed, he bled profusely and fell to the ground. The old man then realised that he had done something very stupid. He was shocked to find that the person who had been stabbed by his knife was actually his son.

The literal translation of this idiom is an old man living in Liqiu.

It is used to describe a person who is unable to clearly see the truth of a matter because he already has a certain opinion in his mind.

Dear friends, what inspiration or thoughts do you have after listening to this story?

Have you ever been so angry that you made a decision that you regretted? Have you ever been unable to see the truth of a matter clearly because you already had a certain opinion in your mind?

I hope this story will give you some new insights.

(An old man living in Liqiu)
