He was ridiculed by the whole world(為天下笑)

During the Warring States Period in China, the Prime Minister of the Qin Kingdom (Lü Buwei) compiled a series of books.

There is a story in these books.

The last king of the Western Zhou Dynasty was called (Ji Gongnie) and he had a beautiful wife called (Bao Si).

There was a powerful nomadic tribe in the north of the Western Zhou Dynasty, and this tribe often attacked the Western Zhou Dynasty.

In order to rally everyone to resist the invasion of the nomads, the Western Zhou Dynasty built a very tall tower in the capital and placed a huge drum on top of it.

The king arranged for several soldiers to take turns standing on this platform to keep watch.

If the soldier noticed that the nomadic army from the north was attacking, he would beat the drum loudly.

When the nobles living near the capital heard the drums, they would lead their troops to the capital to help resist the enemy's invasion.

Once, the nomad army from the north came to attack the capital of the Western Zhou Dynasty.

When the princes living near the capital heard the drumbeats, they led their armies to the capital to help resist the enemy's invasion.

Bao Si found the panic and nervous expressions on the faces of the princes who had rushed to the capital very interesting, and she couldn't help but laugh.

Bao Si shared her feelings with the king. After hearing what Bao Si said, the king also found it very funny to see the princes in such a hurry.

Later, whenever the king was in a bad mood, he would order his soldiers to beat the drums loudly.

When these princes hurried to the capital, the king said to them

Thank you for coming to help us resist the enemy. The enemy is not leading an army to attack. This is an exercise and you can all go home.

After being teased several times in a row, these princes were very unhappy and gradually stopped trusting the king.

About half a year later, when the nomadic tribes of the north led their army on an attack, the king anxiously ordered the soldiers on guard duty to beat the drums loudly.

But this time no prince came to help the king resist the invasion of these nomadic peoples.

On the same day, the nomad army captured the capital of the Western Zhou Dynasty, and the king and his wife were killed.

The Western Zhou Kingdom fell.

After the death of the Western Zhou king, no one sympathised with him. On the contrary, people all over the world ridiculed him.

The literal translation of this idiom is that the whole world laughed at him.

This idiom is used to describe a person's behaviour that is extremely foolish.

Dear friends, what inspiration or thoughts do you get after listening to this story?

Are you a trustworthy person? Have you ever fooled others because you were in a bad mood?

I hope this story can give you some new insights.

(He was ridiculed by the whole world)
