Wang Ningzhi (王凝之)(334-399 AD)
His surname was Wang, his parents called
him Ningzhi, and as he grew up his friends called him Shuping.

He was a famous official in the Jin Dynasty
of China and he was also a calligrapher.
His family was the most powerful in the Jin
Dynasty and many of his family members served as ministers in the central
government.
There is a story about him recorded in
history books.
During the Eastern Han Dynasty in China,
there was a man named Zhang Daoling who founded a religion. The name of this
religion is (Wudoumi Dao) and it is also known as (Tianshi Dao).
This religion lasted from the Eastern Han
Dynasty to the Jin Dynasty, during which many officials and common people were
its followers.
The classic text of this religion is Lao
Tzu's Tao Te Ching. This religion believes that people can become immortal
through their own practice, and that they can communicate with invisible
supernatural energies through spells and talismans.
Wang Ningzhi joined (Tianshi Dao) after he
became an adult, and he was a very devout believer.
In the late Jin dynasty, some misguided
policies caused great social unrest. A man named Sun En called for a group of
rebels to oppose the central government of the Jin Dynasty. Sun En led these
rebels to occupy many cities, and Sun En's power grew stronger and stronger.
In 399 AD, Sun En led this group of rebels
to besiege the city of Kuaiji.
Zhang Ningzhi was the mayor of Kuaiji City,
and some military generals of Kuaiji City told him.
Sun En led this rebel army and surrounded
our city.
We should immediately strengthen our
defences and proactively organise the people and soldiers to fight these
rebels.
Wang Ningzhi did not listen to these
officers. He smiled and spoke to them.
Don't worry, I've made preparations in
advance.
Over the past few days, I have been
communicating with invisible supernatural energies through spells and
talismans. There are many gods and spirits that cannot be seen by human eyes
that are closely protecting our city.
There is no way these rebels will be able
to conquer our city.
After hearing Wang Ningzhi's words, some
military generals in Kuaiji City thought his approach was ridiculous, but Wang
Ningzhi insisted on not organising the people and army to fight. These military
generals persuaded Wang Ningzhi several times, but Wang Ningzhi always believed
that his approach could protect Kuaiji City.
A few days later, Zhang En led the rebels
in an attack on Kuaiji City, which was quickly taken. Wang Ningzhi and his sons
were killed.
The ghosts and gods that Wang Ningzhi said
would protect Kuaiji City failed to appear.

他是中國晉王朝的一個著名的官員，他也是一個書法家。
他的家族是晉王朝中最有權力的一個家族，他的很多家人都在中央政府內擔任大臣。
歷史書上記載過一個關於他的故事。
中國的東漢時代有一個人名字叫做(張道陵)的人創立了一個宗教。這個宗教的名字叫做(五斗米道)也被稱為(天師道)。
這個宗教從東漢延續到晉王朝，晉王朝時有很多大臣與百姓都是其信徒。
這個宗教的經典典籍是老子的道德經，這個宗教認為人們可以藉由自己的修行成為仙人，也認為可以通過咒語與符咒來與那些看不到的超自然能量溝通。
王凝之成年之後加入(天師道)，他是一個非常虔誠的信徒。
晉王朝後期因為一些錯誤的政策引起社會極大的動盪，有一個名字叫做孫恩的人便號召了一批反叛軍反抗晉王朝的中央政府，孫恩領導這些反叛軍佔領了很多城市，孫恩的勢力愈來愈大。
西元399年，孫恩領導這一批反叛軍包圍了會稽市。
張凝之是會稽這座城市的市長，會稽市的一些軍事將領對他說。
孫恩領導著這隻反叛軍已經包圍了我們的城市，
我們應該要立刻加強防備並且主動組織人民與士兵一起對抗這些反叛軍。
王凝之沒有聽這些軍官的意見，他笑著對這些軍官說。
你們不用擔心，我已經事先做好準備了。
這幾天我已經通過咒語與符咒與那些看不到的超自然能量溝通過了，有很多人眼無法看到的神與鬼正在嚴密的保護我們這座城市。
至些反叛軍絕對無法攻下我們這座城市。
會稽市的一些軍事將領聽到王凝之的話後，他們覺得王凝之的做法實在太荒謬了，但是王凝之堅持不肯組織人民與軍隊迎戰，這些軍事將領又勸說了王凝之好幾次但王凝之始終認定自己的作法已經可以保護好會稽市。
幾天後，張恩領導反叛軍發動對會稽市的進攻，會稽市很快地就被攻下，王凝之與他的兒子們都被殺。
王凝之所說的那些會保護會稽市的鬼與神並沒有出現。
