A person of high moral character, ambition and willingness to act for his ideals(仁人君子)

Su Shi was a famous politician and gourmet in China's Song Dynasty. He was also an excellent writer and calligrapher. He is also one of the most popular poets in Chinese history.

During the Han Dynasty of China, there was a famous and loyal minister called Chao Cuo. He argued that the power of many princes in the Han Dynasty needed to be reduced. His actions aroused the anger of these princes, who later rebelled. Chao Cuo was eventually sentenced to death for causing the unrest.

After reading (Chao Cuo's) biography, Su Shi wrote an article.

The general meaning of the first paragraph of this article is as follows

Our society often seems very stable, but we do not realise that there are dangers hidden under this stable life.

Some clever people will discover these dangerous factors. But if these wise people do not take the initiative to change the situation and wait until the dangerous situation becomes so serious that we cannot save it, the danger will erupt and endanger the entire society.

Why do these smart people discover these dangerous factors but are not willing to take the initiative to change the situation? I think it is because these smart people know that most people are ignorant, and in a peaceful era no one will believe their insights into the future.

Only some people with high moral character and ambition, who are willing to act for their ideals, some truly brave people, will take action when they see this situation. These people will give their honest advice to the whole of society, and these people will say things that are correct but not pleasing to people.

These people deserve our admiration because they are not like the cowardly people and those who only want to pursue money and interests and choose to remain silent when they see danger.

But if these people of high moral character and ambition want to change this situation, if they see these crises and want to launch major reform actions, they must be wise enough. They must first draw up a complete plan before taking action. When they push for reforms, they should know that they will face great difficulties and resistance. They should be mentally prepared for this.

Some people are not mentally prepared enough, so when they encounter resistance while promoting reform, they may retreat and not dare to take responsibility out of fear. They will shift the pressure they face in promoting reform onto others, and their actions will cause great harm to themselves.

This idiom describes a person with high moral character, ambition and willingness to act for his ideals.

(A person of high moral character, ambition and willingness to act for his ideals)
