Those who do good will be blessed, and
those who do evil will suffer misfortune(福善禍淫)
The king who founded China's Shang Dynasty
was called (Zi Tang), also known as (Shang Tang). A story about him is recorded
in history books.
The last king of China's Xia Dynasty was
called (Si Jie), also known as (Xia Jie). (Xia Jie) was a very cruel king. He
drank and enjoyed himself every day. He didn't care about people's lives. All the
people felt very unhappy under his rule.
In 1600 BC, Shang Tang led a revolutionary
army to defeat the army led by Jie Xia. He unified all of China and founded the
Shang Dynasty.
After establishing the Shang Dynasty, he
gave a public speech to all the people in the capital of the Shang Dynasty.
The general meaning of the first half of his speech is as follows.
People, today we have entered a new era. I
am giving this speech today to let you know how I feel right now.
Each of us has a very kind nature, and each
of us lives a simple life.
But we have come across a very cruel king
(Jie of Xia) who is morally corrupt and treats his people extremely cruelly. He
gambles every day, he doesn't care about people's lives, and he makes us suffer
a lot of pain in life.
(Xia Jie's) actions have made all the
people very dissatisfied. All the people are weeping and praying to God. All
the people hope to overthrow his rule.
I think we are doing God's will, which is
why our revolutionary actions are so successful. We have many wise people in
our camp, so our revolutionary actions are so smooth.
God hears our cries, and God is just.
God blesses those who do good and brings
disaster on those who do evil. This time we can successfully overthrow (Xia
Jie's) rule. This success belongs to all of us, and we all have an extremely
important part to play in promoting the success of this revolution.
The literal translation of this idiom is
that those who do good will be blessed, and those who do evil will suffer
misfortune.

(Those who do good will be blessed,
and those who do evil will suffer misfortune)
