Position and wealth(功名富貴)

Position and wealth(功名富貴)

At the end of the Ming Dynasty in China, there was a famous writer called Feng Menglong who wrote a collection of short stories.

He adapted a true story recorded in the history books of the Han Dynasty of China into a fantastic short story that was completely contrary to the actual historical events.

The protagonist of this story was called Zhang Shao. He lived during the Han Dynasty. At the age of 35, he left his hometown and went to a big city called Luoyang to take the national examination.

The night before he arrived in Luoyang City, he stayed at an inn in a small village.

That night, he found that there was a seriously ill man in the room next to him, and he took the initiative to help this strange man.

He found some Chinese medicine practitioners to treat the sick man. He helped the man go to the toilet and eat, and took good care of him.

The man's condition gradually improved, his high fever broke and he slowly regained his strength.

Initially, the man could only lie weakly in bed. After a few days, he was able to sit up. After a few more days, the man recovered to the point where he could get out of bed, stand up and walk slowly.

The man was very grateful to Zhang Shao, and he said to Zhang Shao

My name is Fan Shi, you can call me (Ju Qing). My father and mother died when I was a child, and when I grew up I worked in the wholesale and retail trade of daily necessities. I am married and have a lovely wife and children.

Since I was young, I always wanted to work in the central government.

In recent years, I have used my free time to study. This year, I registered for the national exam. Unexpectedly, I fell seriously ill on the way to Luoyang.

When Fan Shi said this, he said to Zhang Shao with tears in his eyes.

In order to take care of me, you changed your original plan, and your trip was delayed because of me.

The time for this national examination has passed, and I feel very guilty that you did not attend.

Zhang Shao replied with a smile.

I believe that a person's life is more important than official position and wealth. I still have the chance to take part in the next national examination. I believe that if God wants me to get official position and wealth, then I will get it naturally.

Seeing you recover, I think that's more valuable than anything else.

I'm just doing what I think should be done, don't feel guilty.

Zhang Shao and Fan Shi chatted every day, sharing each other's ideas and life experiences. They both thought the other was a person of high moral character, gentle and polite. Their relationship became better and better, and they were as close as a pair of brothers.

The literal translation of this idiom means official position and wealth.

Dear friends, what inspiration or thoughts do you have after listening to this story?

Do you think there is anything more important than wealth and position? Do you have such a friend who is like a brother?

I hope this story can give you some new insights.

(Position and wealth)
