There was a famous official in China's
Eastern Han Dynasty. His name was (Fan Shi).
He has a good friend named (Zhang Shao).
Zhang Shao once said to his other two
friends.
You two have been very good to me, and I am
very grateful for your help. Both of you are my very good friends, but I think
there is only one friend in my life who understands me the best and is most
compatible with me, and that person is (Fan Shi).
According to historical records, Zhang Shao
told his family and friends before he died.
I feel like I'm dying, and I really hope to
see (Fan Shi) again before I die, but this wish can no longer be fulfilled.
When Zhang Shao died, Fan Shi was an
official in the central government of the Eastern Han Dynasty. On the night of
Zhang Shao's death, (Fan Shi) had a strange dream.
He dreamed that Zhang Shao was wearing very
formal clothes, and in the dream Zhang Shao said to him.
I am dead, and my family will hold a
funeral for me. Can you come to my funeral?
(Fan Shi) suddenly woke up and thought in
his heart.
Why did I have such a strange dream? Did
something happen to (Zhang Shao)?
(Fan Shi) immediately asked for leave the
next day, and he got into a simple carriage pulled by a white horse and hurried
to Zhang Shao's hometown.
When (Fan Shi) arrived in Zhang Shao's
hometown, he went to Zhang Shao's house.
Zhang Shao's neighbour said to [Fan Shi].
Zhang Shao is dead. His funeral will be
held outside the village today. If you go there now, you should still be able
to attend his funeral.
When (Fan) arrived at the funeral, he saw
Zhang Shao's mother. With tears in his eyes, he said to Zhang Shao's mother
I dreamed that Zhang Shao told me he was
dead, so I felt very uneasy. I really hoped that this dream was wrong. I didn't
expect my good friend to die so young.
Zhang Shao's mother said to him.
Before he died, Zhang Shao said he hoped to
see you. Today's funeral did not go smoothly. I think it might be because Zhang
Shao knew you were coming, so his soul deliberately delayed the funeral. His
soul is hoping for you to come and see him.
(Fan Shi) went to Zhang Shao's coffin,
touched it with tears in his eyes, and said
My best friend, I am here to see you off on
the last journey of your life. I will never forget the friendship between us,
and I will always remember you.
After the funeral, (Fan Shi) stayed in
Zhang Shao's hometown for a few days. He planted many pine and cypress trees
beside Zhang Shao's grave. This was his way of expressing his longing for his
good friend.

(范氏)隔天就立刻請假，他坐上一輛由白色的馬拉著得沒有裝飾的馬車，他急忙趕往張劭的家鄉。
當(范氏)到了張劭的家鄉後，他到了張劭的家。
張劭的鄰居對(范氏)說。
張劭死了，他今天在村外舉辦葬禮，如果你現在過去，應該還來得及參加他的葬禮。
當(范氏)到了葬禮的現場後，他看到張劭的媽媽。他流著眼淚對張劭的媽媽說。
我夢到張劭對我說他已經死了，所以我的心中覺得很不安，我多麼希望這個夢是錯的，我沒想到我的好朋友竟然那麼年輕就過世了。
張劭的媽媽對他說。
張劭臨死前說他希望見你一面，我們今天舉辦葬禮的過程一直很不順利，我想這可能是因為張劭知道你要來，所以他的靈魂故意拖延這場葬禮的進行，他的靈魂希望等你來並見你一面。
(范氏)走到張劭的棺木前面，他流著淚撫摸著棺木，他說。
我最好的朋友，我已經來了，我來送你走完人生的最後一段路了，我們兩個人的情誼我永遠不會忘記，我會永遠記得你。
喪禮結束後，(范氏)又在張劭的故鄉待了好幾天，他在張劭的墳墓旁種了很多的松樹與柏樹，他用這個方式表達他對他的好朋友的想念。
