He could read ten lines at a time.(一目十行)
During the Southern and Northern Dynasties
period in China, Xiao Gang was king of the Southern Liang Kingdom. He was a
renowned poet and writer in Chinese history.
His story is recorded in history books.
His father founded the Southern Liang
Kingdom and Xiao Gang was his third child.
He was extremely intelligent. After reading
a book once, he could recall its entire contents. He read so quickly that, even
as a child, his family asked him, 'How can you read so quickly?'
He smiled and replied, 'I can read ten
lines at a time, so I can finish an entire book very quickly.'
By the age of six, he could write fluent
and original essays, and by seven he had started composing poetry.
He once told his friends, 'I've loved
writing poetry ever since I was seven. It's become a special hobby of mine. I
love expressing my innermost feelings through poetry."
His father was very proud of him and told
all his colleagues. This child is so special." During the Three Kingdoms
period in China, there was a famous minister called Cao Cao in the Han dynasty.
His eldest son was called Cao Pi, who established the Kingdom of Cao Wei.
Cao Pi's younger brother was Cao Zhi, the
most famous and talented poet and writer in China.
The three of them are recognised as
legendary figures in Chinese history, as they were all very talented in
literature.
I personally love literature, poetry, and
the Buddhist and Confucian classics. My children have developed a deep literary
literacy since childhood, just like me. I think my sons and I can be compared
to Cao Cao and his sons.
My achievements can be compared to those of
Cao Cao. Among my children, Xiao Gang can be compared to Cao Zhi, as he is the
most intelligent and talented of all his brothers.
He wrote over a hundred books in his
lifetime. The scope of his work is very wide, ranging from personal biography
to studies of Laozi, Zhuangzi and Buddhist classics, totalling several hundred
volumes.
This idiom literally means that he can read
ten lines at a time when reading a book.
This idiom is used to describe someone who
reads very quickly.

一目十行(He could read ten lines at a time.)
