During China's Tang dynasty, there was a famous prime minister whose life story was truly legendary.
He came from a prominent political family and was highly intelligent. He enjoyed studying and practising Taoism. He was not interested in pursuing power and status, and he remained calm in the face of slander from treacherous people.
History records a story about him.
Li Mi served as prime minister of the Tang dynasty. One day, he met a young official named Gu Kuang.
Despite it being their first meeting, Li Mi felt as if they had known each other for a long time. They shared many similar ideas and perspectives.
Li Mi did not look down on Gu Kuang because he was a lowly official, nor did Gu Kuang fawn over Li Mi because he was the prime minister. The two men became close friends.
In 789 AD, Li Mi passed away due to illness.
Gu Kuang wrote a poem to express his feelings, the outline of which is as follows: 'I was like a migratory bird that had flown from a distant land and was warmly received by the resident phoenix, who offered me shelter in its own paulownia tree.'
But the noble phoenix died, and the paulownia tree withered. Looking around, I discovered that I was surrounded by owls, and I knew that my future would be extremely difficult.
In this poem, Gu Kuang used the phoenix to represent Li Mi and the owls to represent the many incompetent officials in the central government at the time who were eager for power and wealth.
When these officials discovered the poem, they were deeply dissatisfied and united in their efforts to ostracize and slander Gu Kuang.
The king believed the malicious slander of these ministers, and Gu Kuang was subsequently transferred to a small, remote city far from the capital.
This idiom means that, even though they had just met, the two people felt as if they had known each other for a long time.
It is often used to describe two people who hit it off immediately, becoming as warm and friendly as old friends.

西元789年，李泌因為生病而過世。
顧況寫了一首詩表達自己內心的感受，這首詩的大概內容如下。
我就像是一隻從非常遙遠的地方飛到這個地方的候鳥，我受到住在這裡的鳳凰熱情的接待，這隻鳳凰讓我在牠所居住的梧桐樹上棲居。
這隻高貴的鳳凰死去了，牠所居住的梧桐樹也枯死了，我環顧四周，我發現我的周圍竟然有許多貓頭鷹圍繞著我，我知道我接下來的處境必定會十分的困難。
顧況在這首詩中，用鳳凰代表李泌，用貓頭鷹代表了當時中央政府內的許多能力不強且熱切追求權力與金錢的官員們。
他寫的這首詩後來被這些熱切追求權力與金錢的官員們知道了，這些官員們覺得很不開心，他們就聯合起來排擠並且中傷顧況。
國王聽信了這些大臣的們惡意毀謗，顧況後來被調職到一個遠離首都的一個很偏遠的小城市內。
