The play features a minor villain named Jia
Ru.

According to Chinese pronunciation, it can also be interpreted as 'false
scholar', which the author has used to characterise this villain.
Jia Ru was a student of a renowned
Confucian scholar. He appeared upright in his appearance and behaviour, but he
was actually very treacherous.
He often slandered others behind their
backs and had a tongue like a sword, piercing many people with it. He would
write anonymous denunciatory letters to frame others. His words, like bitter
food, caused pain to many.
He was a master of disguise. He touted
himself as a man of high moral character, but in reality he was extremely
greedy and would often accept bribes from criminals and shield those who had
committed crimes.
He was a skilled actor, often crying in
order to portray himself as compassionate. His performance was so convincing
that even the most cynical could be deceived.
Eagerly pursuing fame and power, he was
like a greedy tiger, his heart being more cunning than a fox's.
Many of those he framed knew his true
nature. They called him a beast in human clothing, a thief feigning
intellectual sophistication.
Due to his extremely poor character, many
believe that if Confucius were still alive, he would tell everyone that this
person was not a Confucian disciple.
This idiom literally means 'a beast wearing
human clothing and a human hat'.
It is used to describe a hypocrite with
extremely corrupt morals.

他像一隻貪婪的老虎一樣熱切地追逐名聲與權力，他的心比狐狸還要狡猾。
