Person(千夫所指)
During the Western Han dynasty in China,
there was a famous minister named Wang Jia.
History records a story about him.
He enjoyed a successful political career,
holding important positions in both the central and local governments. He was a
man of integrity who performed well at his job and was not afraid to offer
frank advice to his leaders. His final position was Prime Minister of the
Western Han Dynasty.
In 7 BC, a new king ascended the Western
Han throne. This king's name was Liu Xin. He became king at the age of 19 and
was ambitious when he first took office, taking the initiative to promote many
reforms.
In 5 BC, two years after he became king,
Liu Xin fell in love with Dong Xian, who was two years younger than him.
Liu Xin was deeply attracted to Dong Xian.
Dong Xian quickly rose in rank and power,
receiving a reward of over 100 million copper coins.
The way in which Liu Xin treated Dong Xian
shocked all the ministers.
Because he deeply loved Dong Xian, Liu Xin
also treated his family with special care. He appointed Dong Xian's father,
father-in-law and other relatives to important positions within the central
government and married Dong Xian's sister as his concubine.
Liu Xin also commissioned imperial
craftsmen to build Dong Xian a vast, luxurious house. He gave Dong Xian the
most precious items from the imperial palace, dressed him in the finest clothes
and adorned him with the most expensive jewellery. Liu Xin even intended for
Dong Xian to succeed him as king of the Western Han dynasty.
However, Liu Xin's behaviour worried Wang
Jia and many other loyal ministers, who wrote a report to admonish him.
The report contained the following passage:
Dong Xian is a talentless man. The main
reason he earned your trust was because he flattered and obeyed you. You
appointed him to important positions in the central government, granted him the
title of marquess and rewarded him with billions of copper coins. Yet you left
the treasury empty and showed no concern.
Your actions have now caused resentment
among the people and concern among many ministers.
Because you were so kind to Dong Xian, most
ministers and the people came to dislike him intensely. If you truly love Dong
Xian, you must change your attitude.
There's an old proverb that goes something
like this:
'If a thousand people simultaneously accuse
one person, then that person should take heed, for death is creeping up on
them.'
I believe Dong Xian's current situation is
similar to that of the person accused in the proverb.
I hope you can reflect on this and correct
your mistakes. You must understand that these mistakes will affect not only
you, but also bring disaster to our country.
After reading this report, Liu Xin became
furious and ordered Wang Jia's arrest.
Wang Jia became deeply worried and
heartbroken in prison and later died on hunger strike.
History indeed fulfilled Wang Jia's
warning. In BC, Liu Xin suddenly died. Without his support, Dong Xian was
immediately scorned by the public. Under immense pressure, he committed
suicide.
This idiom literally means 'a thousand
people simultaneously accusing one person'.
It is used to describe someone whose
actions and attitudes are extremely egregious and have incurred public outrage.

歷史書上記載了一個他的故事。
他的從政資歷相當的豐富，他曾經在中央政府與地方政府都擔任很重要的職務，他的工作表現很好，他是一個很正直的人，他敢於向領導者提出諍言，他生前的最後一個職務是擔任西漢王朝的宰相。
西元前七年，西漢王朝的新任國王繼位，這一任的國王的名字叫做劉欣，劉欣19歲成為國王，他剛上任的時候很有理想，他主動推動了很多改革。
西元前五年，在劉欣成為國王的兩年後，劉欣愛上的一個年紀比他小兩歲名字叫做(董賢)的男子。
劉欣非常的喜歡董賢。
董賢在非常短的期間快速的提高了職位與權力且又得到了超過一億個銅錢的獎賞。
劉欣對待董賢的方式讓所有的大臣都感到震驚。
因為劉欣非常的愛董賢，所以劉欣連帶地非常重視董賢的家人，他讓董賢的父親和岳父和其他的親戚擔任中央政府內的重要職務，他娶了董賢的妹妹成為他的妃子。
劉欣還差派皇家的工匠為董賢蓋了一間佔地廣闊而且非常豪華的屋子，他把皇宮中最珍奇的物品全部送給董賢，他讓董賢穿上質地最好的衣服與配戴最高貴的珠寶，他最後甚至想要讓董賢接替自己成為西漢王朝的國王。
劉欣的行為讓王嘉與其他很多忠誠的大臣都感到憂心，王嘉曾經寫過一篇書面報告來勸誡劉欣。
這篇書面報告中有一段話如下。
董賢是一個沒有才能的人，他能夠被你信任的最主要原因是因為他奉承你而且順從你。你讓他中央政府的重要職位，你賜給他侯爵的身分，你賞給他數以億計的銅錢，你讓國庫空虛而你卻毫不在意。
如今你的行為已經造成了百姓的反感還有很多大臣的憂慮。
因為你對董賢太好所以絕大部分的大臣與百姓都非常討厭董賢，如果你真的愛董賢，你就應該改正自己愛董賢的方式。
有一句古老的諺語如此說。
如果有一千個人同時指責一個人，那麼這個被一千個人所指責的人就要留意了，這個人要知道死亡已經悄悄接近自己。
我認為董賢現在的情況就如同諺語中的這個被指責的人一樣。
我希望你可以好好想一想，你可以改正你的錯誤，你必須明白，你做的這些錯誤的事情不只會影響你自己本身，這些事情也會導致我們國家面臨災難。
劉欣看到這篇書面報告後，他非常的憤怒，他下令逮捕王嘉。
王嘉在獄中非常的憂慮又痛心，他後來在獄中絕食而死。
歷史果然應驗了王嘉的警告。西元前一年，劉欣突然去世，他去世後失去靠山的董賢立刻遭到眾人唾棄，董賢在巨大的壓力下選擇自殺身亡。
