Discussing the mysteries of the universe.(談天說地)

During China's Yuan Dynasty, there was a famous Taoist priest named Feng Zunshi.

He was a master poet and possessed a profound insight into life. His poems contain profound mysteries and transcendental realms. He left behind several poems, the second half of which is summarized as follows.

The most central mystery of the universe cannot be expressed in words, nor can we directly convey it with our thoughts. Lao Tzu used the word "Tao" to represent this mystery, and even the Buddha's "Zen" cannot fully explain it.

Look at the world we live in. Red flowers and green trees, this natural world teeming with diverse life, are manifestations of this mystery. We don't need to engage in deliberate action to perceive this mystery.

Everything in this world we live in is illusory, but emptiness and reality are not opposites; both are part of the universe. We cannot comprehend the infinite and vast universe with the finite things we see. I am only a Taoist scholar with limited knowledge. What I have expounded upon is my personal understanding of the truth of the world we live in, gained through my practice of Taoism.

I consider myself like a stone lion, without consciousness or wisdom, but I still boldly share my modest understanding with you. I sincerely discuss with you the mysteries of the universe.

This idiom literally means 'discussing the mysteries of the universe'.

It is often used to describe a wide-ranging conversation.

It can also be used to describe an unfocused, rambling discussion.

Dear friends, what feelings or thoughts do you have after listening to this poem?

Can you sense the greatness of the universe in your daily life? Do you maintain a sense of awe for what you do not know?

I hope this poem will bring you some new insights.

談天說地(Discussing the mysteries of the universe.)
