Bearing humiliation and suffering injustice.(負屈含冤)
During the Yuan dynasty in China, there was
a famous playwright named Guan Hanqing.
He wrote over 60 plays in his lifetime,
covering a wide range of creative themes. Through his works, he reflected the
social realities and phenomena of the time.
One of his plays features a female
protagonist named Tan Ji'er and a male protagonist named Bai Shizhong. This
play also features a villain named Yang Yanei.
During the oppressive Yuan Dynasty,
ordinary people had no recourse when faced with bullying from powerful figures.
They were unable to resist.
Drama often reflects the realities of the
times, a fact that Guan Hanqing observed keenly.
For this reason, he often included a
character similar to a deus ex machina in the endings of his plays.
People at the time placed their hopes for
justice in an idealised figure. This figure was portrayed as an absolutely
incorruptible, discerning and powerful official who would appear at the last
moment to uphold justice, clear the innocent and punish the guilty.
In the final act of this play, a
high-ranking official named Li Bingzhong suddenly appears, having been directly
authorised by the king to inspect various parts of the country.
Li Bingzhong... Following an active
investigation, the following key facts were discovered:
Firstly, Bai Shizhong was an upright and
highly capable official who was considered an excellent leader by the people of
Tanzhou.
Secondly, Yang Yanei was angered by Bai
Shizhong's marriage to Tan Ji'er and therefore committed the crimes of
defamation and framing Bai Shizhong.
Thirdly, the fishmonger woman was actually
Tan Ji'er in disguise, acting in an attempt to save Bai Shizhong's life.
Having confirmed that Tan Ji'er and Bai
Shizhong had been humiliated and treated unjustly, Li Bingzhong delivered a
fair verdict.
He ruled that Bai Shizhong should continue
to serve as the mayor of Tanzhou City. The mayor of the prefecture.
Although Tan Ji'er had stolen the sword and
plaque representing the king, he believed that she had done so in order to
fight against Yang Yanei's false accusations, and therefore she was acquitted.
Meanwhile, Yang Yanei was stripped of his
official position and reduced to an ordinary citizen. He was also sentenced to
severe punishment.
This idiom translates as 'bearing
humiliation and suffering injustice'.
Dear friend, what inspiration or thoughts

(Bearing humiliation and suffering
injustice.)
