The heart is like a blooming flower.(心花怒放)

There is a highly regarded Buddhist classic in China titled the Yuanjue Jing (Perfect Enlightenment Sutra), which is considered very important by many scholars of Buddhist doctrine.

A passage from this text reads as follows:

In this era, some people have grand aspirations: they want to learn authentic Buddhist knowledge and find a good teacher to guide their practice.

I believe that a truly good teacher should meet the following four conditions:

Firstly, they recognise that everything in this world is illusory, so they are not attached to anything superficial.

Secondly, they have a clear understanding of authentic Buddhist knowledge and are willing to help others understand the core tenets of Buddhism, rather than being self-serving.

Thirdly, although they encounter many troubles and difficulties in life, like us, their hearts always remain pure.

Fourthly, they recognise that their own practice is not yet sufficient and are humble. They practise in a simple and pure way and are happy to share these methods with others.

If you can find such a teacher and study Buddhist scriptures with them, you will have the opportunity to attain the highest wisdom.

If you are fortunate enough to encounter such a teacher, you should follow them wholeheartedly, even if it costs you your life.

In all his actions — walking, standing, sitting and lying down — such a teacher always displays a simple and pure nature.

They may exhibit various shortcomings, but they never harbour the slightest pride or complacency and are not attached to worldly ties such as wealth or relatives.

If a person can maintain unwavering faith in the knowledge of the Buddhist scriptures and cultivate a mind that is free from even the slightest evil thought, they will understand the core essence of Buddhism thoroughly.

At that time, that person's heart will be like a blossoming flower and its light will illuminate the world. "

This idiom literally translates as 'the heart will be like a blooming flower'.

It is now used to describe someone who is extremely happy or feels immense joy.

Dear friend, what have you learned from this story, and what insights have you gained?

Who is the teacher you respect most in your life? Do you think that your actions have made the world a better place?

I hope this story has given you some new perspectives.

(The heart is like a blooming flower.)
