Wu Hong opened a private school in the
capital. Through the introduction of an old woman named Wang, he quickly
decided to marry a very beautiful girl.
On Qingming Festival that year, he went
with a friend named Wang Qi to sweep the tombs on the outskirts of the capital.
Afterwards, he and Wang Qi enjoyed some Chinese rice wine and a meal together
in the countryside.
On their way back to the city that night,
they encountered several ghosts and spent a very long night in fear and
tension.
The next morning, once they had confirmed
that the sun had risen and that the ghosts would no longer appear, they hurried
back to the city.
Upon returning to the capital, Wang Qi went
home.
However, Wu Hong couldn't feel at ease
about going home. After the events of the previous night, he suspected that his
beautiful new wife was a ghost.
He went to the home of the elderly Wang,
who had introduced him to his wife. He wanted to find out about his wife's
identity and background, but when he arrived, he learned that the elderly woman
had been dead for several months.
Hearing the news of the elderly woman's
death horrified Wu Hong so much that his eyes widened and his mouth gaped open
in a blank expression.
His mind went blank and his fear reached
its peak.
After calming down a little, he went to
several other places in the city, searching for people connected to his wife.
As he had suspected, everyone connected to
his wife was already dead.
After mustering his courage, Wu Hong
returned home, breathing a sigh of relief when he found that his wife and her
maid were not there.
However, he knew that this reprieve would
be short-lived. If his wife returned, his life would be in grave danger. He
began to consider how to deal with his current crisis.
