He treated all one hundred kings in the
same way.(一心百君)
Yan Ying was an exceptional statesman from
the Qi Kingdom during China's Spring and Autumn period. Although he was short
in stature and of ordinary appearance, he possessed great wisdom.
History records a story about him.
He lived from 578 to 500 BC and served as
an important minister in the central government of the Qi Kingdom for over 50
years, assisting three Qi kings.
In his later years, he was chatting with a
friend named Liang Qiu Ju. Liang Qiu Ju said to him,
'Summarising your life, you have served
three kings, each with different personalities and preferences, yet you have
earned the trust and respect of all three. I am curious: why has your career
been so successful? Is it because you possess benevolence and high moral
character? Did you adopt different approaches for different kings?'
The elderly Yan Ying smiled and replied to
Liang Qiu Ju. 'When I was young, I heard a saying that greatly inspired me:
'If a person treats those around them with
benevolence and diligence, they will gain the love and trust of everyone around
them.
If a person treats those around them with
arrogance, violence and disloyalty, they will not gain the respect or obedience
of anyone.'
After pausing, Yanzi continued.
'After hearing this, I adopted it as my
guiding principle in work and conduct.
I believe that as long as I maintain this
benevolent and diligent mindset, I can interact with a hundred kings and gain
their love and trust.
My life experience has proven this idea to
be correct.
"If I had changed my stance to conform
to the king's wishes, I don't think I would have gained the love and trust of
any of them. My life would be very different today."
After hearing this story, Confucius
specifically told it to his students. Remember the story of Yan Ying; it will
be of great help to you.
The idiom literally means that he treated
all one hundred kings in the same way.
It was later used to describe a loyal
minister who showed the same loyalty to different kings of a country.

晏嬰生活的年代是西元前578年到西元前500年，他在齊王國的中央政府內擔任重要的大臣的時間超過50年，他總共輔佐過三任的齊王國的國王。
在晏嬰晚年的時候，有一天，他與一個名字叫做(梁丘據)的朋友在聊天的時候，(梁丘據)對他說。

一個人如果依循著仁愛且不懈怠的原則去面對自己生活周遭的人，那麼這個人就可以得到生活周遭所有人的喜愛與信任。
一個人如果用強橫與凶暴且不忠誠的心態去面對自己生活周遭的人，那麼這個人將無法得到任何一個人的尊敬與順服。
晏子說完這段話後停頓了一下接著說。
我聽完這段話後，我就把這段話當作我工作與為人處世的準則。
我認為只要我堅持這種仁愛且不懈怠的一種心態，我可以用同樣的這一種心態去與一百位國王相處、而且我都可以受到這些國王的喜愛與信任。
我這一生的經歷已經證明了我的想法是對的。
如果我用一種沒有順應國王的想法去改變自己的立場的態度與這些國王相處，那麼我認為我無法得到任何一個國王的喜愛與信任，我的人生不會有現在這樣的結果。
孔子聽到這個故事後就特別對他的學生們說了這個故事，孔子對他的學生們說。
你們要記得晏嬰的這個故事，這個故事對你們的人生將會有著非常大的幫助。
這句成語直接翻譯的意思是他用同樣一種心態去與一百位國王相處。
這句成語後來被引申用來形容一個忠誠的大臣對於一個國家中的不同國王都保持一樣的忠誠。
