ancient China, there was a famous minister named Zheng Kao Fu in the Song
kingdom, whose story is recorded in historical books.
He was a highly capable yet humble man. He
joined the central government of the Song Kingdom at a young age, impressing
the king with his performance and earning him a very important position,
equivalent to a modern-day minister.
Upon receiving the appointment, he did not
display arrogance. When the king publicly announced the appointment, Zheng Kao
Fu smiled and bowed slightly to the king and all the ministers.
He knew the job would be challenging, but
he was confident that he could fulfil it.
More than a decade later, the old king died
and was succeeded by a young king. The new king continued the political system
established by his father and kept Jeong Kao Fu in his important position. When
the new king publicly announced the appointment, Jeong Kao Fu bowed solemnly to
the king and all the ministers.
He knew that continuing in this role of
communicating with everyone would not be easy, and he had become more mature
than when he was younger.
After another decade, the young king also
grew old and abdicated the throne prematurely to his son. The newly enthroned
king was younger than Jeong Kao Fu's son. The new king continued the political
system established by his grandfather and father and continued to appoint Jeong
Kao Fu to this important position. When the very young king publicly announced
the appointment, Jeong Kao Fu bowed deeply to express his gratitude to the king
and all the ministers.
As he grew older, he came to understand the
limitations of individual ability more and more. He realised that society
requires the help of many people, and that even the best policy needs
everyone's unity to succeed. His mindset became extremely humble.
Despite holding such an important position,
Zheng Kao Fu remained humble and cautious at all times. When walking on the
street, if someone approached him from the opposite direction, he would
voluntarily move to the side of the road, demonstrating his refinement through
his actions.
Zheng Kao Fu's behaviour earned him the
respect of everyone in the Song Kingdom. He shared these life experiences with
his children, all of whom took him as a role model. He established a highly
prestigious family, and one of his descendants, Confucius, became China's most
renowned educator and founder of Confucianism.
