口吻生花(The tone and wording of this poem are
as exquisite as a blooming flower.)

The tone and wording of this poem are as
exquisite as a blooming flower.(口吻生花)
During the Tang dynasty in China, there was
a famous poet named Zhang Hu whose story is recorded in history books.
Zhang Hu was exceptionally talented. He was
well-read and knowledgeable, but, unlike others, he did not seek to enter the
central government through the imperial examinations. He was not keen on
pursuing fame and fortune.
A prominent minister at the time, Linghu
Chu, greatly admired Zhang Hu's talent. He believed that Zhang Hu's poetic
skills and the imagery in his poems were outstanding and that he was highly
regarded by many contemporary poets. Therefore, he arranged for Zhang Hu to
come to the capital. Linghu Chu compiled 300 of Zhang Hu's poems and presented
them to the king, recommending that Zhang Hu be appointed to work in the
central government so that he could utilise his talents to serve the Tang
Dynasty.
However, the king ultimately did not heed
Linghu Chu's advice, leaving Zhang Hu somewhat disappointed. He returned to his
hometown and spent the rest of his life travelling and writing poetry.
When writing poetry, Zhang Hu would
carefully consider how to express his feelings and ideas in the most
appropriate way. He would recite the words that came to mind.
When he was deep in thought, Zhang Hu
wouldn't respond even when his wife and family called him — he was completely
immersed in his own mental world.
When his wife saw that he was so engrossed
in writing that he hadn't noticed his surroundings, she would pat him
playfully, startling him and bringing him out of his reverie.
If she scolded him for neglecting his
family in favour of poetry, he would smile and tell her, "I think the tone
and wording of this poem are excellent, like a blooming flower."
"I'm so sorry. I was so focused that I
didn't notice you needed to contact me."
This idiom literally means that the tone
and wording of this poem are as exquisite as a blooming flower.
It is used to describe someone who speaks
very elegantly, as if hearing them speak is like seeing beautiful flowers.
Dear friend, what are your thoughts or
feelings after hearing this story?
Have you ever been so engrossed in something that you didn't hear someone calling you? When reading poetry, do you prefer to read aloud or silently?
