Don't miss this opportunity.(時不可失)

The Tang dynasty in China had a famous general named Li Jing who was highly skilled in warfare. He won many victories through his wisdom, and his story is recorded in history books.

After unifying China, the Tang Dynasty grew stronger day by day. A peace treaty was signed with the Turkic Kingdom to the north, ending their long-standing hostility.

However, since Jieli ascended to the throne of the Turkic Kingdom in 620 AD, he had repeatedly sent troops to attack the Tang Dynasty. Initially, the Tang Dynasty's military was insufficient to defeat Jieli's army, and it was forced to pay reparations and accept a humiliating peace treaty.

However, a few years later, the Tang Dynasty had grown increasingly powerful politically, economically and militarily, and Jieli continued to send troops to harass them.

Following his military successes, Jieli treated the Tang Dynasty king with arrogance and conceit. However, when he was defeated several times, he adopted a humble and subservient attitude in negotiations.

Under Jieli's leadership, the Turkic Kingdom caused immense trouble and harm to the Tang Dynasty.

In 630 AD, Li Jing launched a surprise attack on the Turkic Kingdom with 3,000 soldiers. Li Jing's victory was decisive: the Turkic Kingdom's main military force was annihilated and its king, Jieli, fled the capital.

Following this defeat, Jieli adopted a humble and subservient posture once again, requesting peace talks with the Tang Dynasty. The Tang Dynasty sent an ambassador named Tang Jian to meet Jieli and discuss the details of the peace negotiations.

However, based on his experience, Li Jing believed that Jieli did not genuinely want peace; he merely wanted to buy time to regroup his army and invade the Tang Dynasty again.

Li Jing did not believe that peace talks were advisable. He argued that Jieli's forces were at their weakest and that he could not afford to miss this opportunity to eliminate Jieli's power completely.

He secretly led an army of 10,000 men to the Turkic Kingdom. Taking advantage of Jieli's negotiations with Zhang Jian, as well as his low vigilance, Li Jing launched a surprise attack on the kingdom. The operation was highly successful: Jieli was captured alive, over 10,000 Turkic soldiers were killed and more than 100,000 Turkic people surrendered.

The idiom literally translates as "Don't miss this opportunity".

Dear friend, what insights or thoughts did you gain from this story?

If someone had deceived you many times, would you still trust them? How would you treat a treacherous person whose stance is inconsistent and deceitful?

I hope this story gives you some new insights.

(Don't miss this opportunity)
