During the Three Kingdoms period in China,
the three main kingdoms were: Wei, Wu and Shu Han. The leaders of these
kingdoms all shared the same goal: to defeat the other two and unify China.
Zhuge Liang was the prime minister of Shu
Han. In the years before his death, he also served as Shu Han's highest
military commander. He is considered one of the most famous, loyal and wise
prime ministers in Chinese history.
Zhuge Liang wrote a book on military
strategy in which he discussed the qualities of an excellent military commander
and his military philosophy. In this book, he set out his criteria for
classifying military commanders.
The gist of this passage is as follows:
Each military commander has different
qualities and abilities, and the influence they can exert varies accordingly.
The following is a classification standard for military commanders that I have
compiled.
A person who possesses keen observational
skills, can discern malicious intent and prevent misconduct among soldiers, and
earns the trust of those under their command is a qualified military commander
capable of managing ten men.
If a person possesses the above qualities
and also works tirelessly from morning till night and is extremely cautious in
their speech, then they are a qualified military commander capable of managing
one hundred men.
Furthermore, if a person acts with
integrity and clarity of mind while in power, is methodical in their actions
and courageous and knowledgeable about the rules of war, then they are a
qualified military commander capable of managing one thousand men.
Furthermore, if a person possesses inner
strength and an outward appearance, a strong passion for life and an
understanding of, and empathy for, the hardships experienced by all soldiers,
especially the lowest-ranking, then this person is a qualified military
commander capable of managing ten thousand men.
In addition to the qualities listed above,
a qualified military commander capable of managing 100,000 people would be
someone who can promote individuals of outstanding character and exceptional
work ability, maintains a cautious attitude in their work every day, is
broad-minded, honest and trustworthy, and has the ability to resolve chaotic
situations and restore stability.
The highest standard a military commander
can reach is to possess the qualities mentioned above and to treat everyone
with benevolence, while also possessing justice and integrity. They should
understand the most fundamental laws governing the universe and the world, be
adept at using interpersonal skills and, most importantly, have a broad
perspective. They should see the entire world as a whole and know that no one
in this world can exist in isolation.
If a military commander possesses these
qualities, you could entrust them with the entire world's armies and they would
manage them exceptionally well.

蜀漢王國的宰相叫做(諸葛亮)，他過世的前幾年，他也兼擔任蜀漢王國最高的軍事將領，他是中國歷史上最著名的最忠誠與最有智慧的宰相。
諸葛亮寫過一本兵法書，在這本書中他論述一個優秀的軍事將領該有的特質與他的軍事思想。在這本書中有一段，他描寫了他對於軍事將領的分類標準。

綜合上列的特質之外，如果一個人具備強大的內心與外表，這個人對於生命有著強烈的熱情，這個人理解並且關懷所有士兵們的辛苦，這個人能夠體恤最底層的士兵們的需要，那麼這個人就是一個合格的能夠管理一萬個人的軍事將領。
綜合上列的特質之外，如果一個人能夠提拔品德卓越與工作能力傑出的人。如果這個人每天都保持謹慎的態度去工作，這個人的心胸寬大而且誠實又守信用，這個人有能力可以解決混亂的局面並且讓局面恢復成安定，那麼這個人就是一個合格的能夠管理十萬個人的軍事將領。
我認為一個軍事將領能夠達到的最高標準，在於這個軍事將領除了有上述的那些特質之外，這個人用仁慈對待所有人，但這個人同時又具備正義與誠信，這個人可以理解到這個宇宙與世界最基礎的運行法則，這個人能夠熟悉運用人際交往的種種技巧，最重要的最後一點，這個人必須具備廣大的格局，這個人能夠把整個世界都看成一個整體，這個人知道這個世界上的每個人都是無法獨自存在的。
一個軍事將領如果像我所說的這樣，那麼你把全世界的所有軍隊都交給這個他，他都可以管理的非常好。
