惴惴不安(Fear, worry and unease)

中國的春秋時代，秦王國有一任國王的名字叫做(嬴任好)。

他在位的時候任用了許多有智慧的人協助他治理秦王國，在這些人的協助下，秦王國成為那個時代最強大的王國。

 

(嬴任好)擔任國王的時間長達38年，西元前621年，他死之前，他做出了一個重大的決定，這個決定讓他偉大的一生在結束後留下了一個汙點。

 

(嬴任好)發出命令，他讓平常侍奉他的100多個僕人與婢女在他死後殉葬，他還把三個秦王國內最著名的三個賢明而且有能力的大臣加入殉葬的名單內。

 

他的這個決定讓當時的所有百姓感到悲傷與痛苦，有許多的百姓與大臣們提出激烈的反應，但是他到死都沒有更改他的命令。

 

當時的百姓寫了一首詩表達自己心中的憤慨，這首詩的大意如下。

 

黃雀停留在那棵酸棗樹上，牠的鳴叫聲如此哀傷。

有一個人跟著國王殉葬，這個人的名字是(奄息)，他的品德超過眾人。

當他走近墓穴那一刻，他的臉上露出恐懼擔憂而且不安的表情。

上天啊，為何你要帶走這個好人呢?

如果可以免除他參加殉葬，我們中間有一百個人願意代替他去死。

 

黃雀停留在那棵桑樹上，牠的鳴叫聲如此哀傷。

有一個人跟著國王殉葬，這個人的名字是(仲行)，他是我們眾人的楷模。

當他走近墓穴那一刻，他的臉上露出恐懼擔憂而且不安的表情。

上天啊，為何你要帶走這個好人呢?

如果可以免除他參加殉葬，我們中間有一百個人願意代替他去死。

During China's Spring and Autumn period, the Qin Kingdom was ruled by a king named Ying Renhao.

 

During his reign, he employed many wise men to help him govern the kingdom, which became the most powerful in that era with their help.

 

Ying Renhao reigned for 38 years. However, in 621 BC, before his death, he made a momentous decision that stained his otherwise illustrious life.

 

He issued an order for over 100 of his servants and maids to be buried alive with him, including three of the Qin Kingdom's most renowned, wise and capable ministers.

 

This caused great grief and sorrow among the people, and many officials and commoners protested vehemently, but he never rescinded the order.

 

The people of the time wrote a poem to express their indignation, the gist of which is as follows:

 

A yellow sparrow perches on the jujube tree, its cry so mournful.

A man was to be buried alive with the king. His name was Yanxi, and he was more virtuous than anyone else.

As he approached the tomb, fear, worry and unease showed on his face.

Heavens, why did you take this good man away?

If he could be spared, a hundred of us would gladly die in his place.

 

A yellow bird perches on the mulberry tree, its cry mournful.

Another man was to be buried alive with the king. His name was Zhongxing, and he was a model for all of us.

As he approached the tomb, his face showed fear, worry and unease.

Heavens, why did you take this good man away?

If he could be spared, a hundred of us would gladly die in his place.

 

A yellow bird perched on the thorn bush, its cry mournful.

Another man was to be buried alive with the king. His name was Zhenhu, and his courage surpassed all others.

As he approached the tomb, his face showed fear, worry and unease.

Heavens, why did you take this good man away?

If only he could be spared from being buried alive; a hundred of us would gladly die in his place.
