(You are the most outstanding among the next generation.)

(You are the most outstanding among the next generation.)

You are the most outstanding among the next generation.(後來之秀)

There was a famous official named Guo Shu in China's Jin Dynasty, whose story is recorded in history books.

When he was a child, he told his mother, "I want to study." His mother was delighted and immediately found him a school.

A little over a year later, he told his mother, 'I can now read and write. I can continue my studies on my own." He left school and began diligently studying the ancient Chinese classics every day.

By the time he was an adult, his knowledge and learning had surpassed that of all the other young people in his town. Several prominent scholars and officials held him in high regard. They told him, 'You are the most outstanding among the next generation.

.

We believe you will make many valuable contributions to our country in the future."

After Guo Shu came of age, another incident occurred. One day, his cow went missing. Upon investigation, he discovered that a neighbour had stolen and slaughtered it. The neighbour had been forced to commit this act due to poverty. Feeling ashamed, the neighbour apologised to Guo Shu.

Guo Shu chose to forgive him, saying:

"I know you stole and killed my cow because you were struggling financially. I forgive you.

By the way, my cow was very big. Now that it's dead, cook its meat so that everyone in our town can eat it."

This idiom translates as 'Among the next generation, you are the most outstanding'.

It is used to describe someone younger than oneself who is exceptionally talented.

Dear friend, what inspiration or thoughts did you gain from this story?

Do you know anyone younger than you who you think is very talented? If you were Guo Shu, how would you treat the person who stole your cow?

I hope this story provides you with some new insights.
